bit). Tape
Need a good sunny day!
First
of all we talked about the artist – I read the book on Pollock, from the library. Then we divided the class in half. Half stayed inside to work the first project
the other half went outside.
Abstract
movement – using color. (taken from one
of the art books in the docent room).
1. Painted Marbles in Box Lid: Tape
a piece of paper into the lid of the box.
Drop a marble or two into each paper cup of paint. Use the spoon to take it out and drop them in
the corners of the box. Then… pick up
the box and roll the marbles around. If
you want you can block out sections with stencils to create a different look.
Pollock was known for
creating art that gives a strong feeling of motion.
2. Big
Abstract Painting: The other half of the class went outside. Pollock also like to create BIG art –
working in an open space, standing where he could move around the entire piece
of paper.
We taped a couple of pieces of paper on the
large poster paper and then let kids go 2 or three at a time on a large piece
using the paint in the plastic bottles to create GREAT abstract art. Using squeeze bottles was pure heaven for the
artists.
Hints on how to make
the activity work best Water down the paint to avoid globs, and
less paint is better as it takes long to dry. Have kids wear old clothes as
this is messy and also have 2-3
parents inside and 2-3 outside.
