Activities:

            1. Line Review – review different types of line

Draw lines on chalk board and have names of lines on paper (4x6” etc) so they can be matched up by students. Lines include:  Diagonal, curved, vertical, horizontal, parallel, perpendicular, zigzag, dashed or broken, straight,

2.Artist Review: Internet bio with photo – http://www.popsubculture.com/pop/bio_project/sub/joan_miro.html search for Joan Miro

3 Tin Foil Abstract (Describe the project (s) for this lesson)

1.     Cover one side of card stock with Elmer’s glue; make sure the paper is completely covered with a LIGHT COAT.

2.     Take string and make let it drop on the paper in an abstract manner

3.     Take tin foil and completely cover the string – make sure extra hangs off each edge

4.     Starting in the middle, GENTLY press the tin foil down so the string starts to show up as raised under the foil, continue to GENTLY press – taking care not to rip the foil. It needs to be flat to the paper and contoured over the string.

5.     Have the kids start to color the foil and the depressed areas in the foil, leave the string blank if they want; color the shapes made within the string outline – the background.

6.     Have the kids study their creation and find out what do they see.

7.     Name their abstract creation on the back

8.     Mount the abstract with their title on the front

4. Color Pages – for those kids with time, have them color the pages from Enchantedlearning.com – I found 3 pages to color

Hints on how to make the activity work best: Make sure the kids don’t tear the tin foil as they press down before coloring, if torn, just keep going and be more careful
