West Woodland PHYSICAL EDUCATION Program

Success-Oriented Physical Education

West Woodland has a success-oriented physical education program.  We focus on teamwork, cooperation, motor skill development and fitness.  Students have many opportunities to work on these skills during team play, individual play, and small group activities.

Seattle Kids Marathon

The Seattle Kids Marathon is structured for students to complete a 26.2-mile run at their own pace.  Twenty-five of their miles will be completed on the honor system.  They may run or walk their miles at school during scheduled recess times, or you may exercise with them on your own scheduled time.  On Saturday November 26th, students will gather to complete their 1.2 miles at Memorial Stadium.

West Woodland has 91 students currently participating.  That is an incredible turnout and I am looking forward to graphing and watching each child’s progress on the bulletin board outside the gym.  I am always in need of volunteers for this big event.  Please contact me at school for more information.  Thank you for all your support!

Learn To Swim

Learn to Swim lesson program for the 2005-2006 school year will begin November 1. Following a scheduled presentation at West Woodland Elementary School, a free lesson voucher will be sent to the home of all 3rd and 4th grade students.  This is a great opportunity that the citizens of Seattle voted to support with the 2000 Pro Parks Levy.  Only 21% of our West Woodland 3rd and 4th grade students from last year have taken advantage of this opportunity to date.  Let’s make every effort to redeem the vouchers this year for a 30% turnout.  Every 3rd and 4th grade student can benefit from this program.  Whether they are a beginner or experienced swimmer.

LET’S GET MOVING!!!
