Welcome to the West Woodland Computer Lab. I have explored many sites on the Web and have found some great games to help students enjoy the adventures of learning. I have put together a directory of these websites in my “Fun & Games” page. There are many subjects to study and it creates a wonderful tool for research. I hope you explore the links and use the research tools available. There is something for everyone. Many teachers, parents, and students of all ages use this site daily. Enjoy the Internet, but always surf responsibly. Many sites have links to chat rooms. Never give personal information to a stranger. If you are under age, always make sure an adult knows what you are doing on the computer. Never go online without your parent’s approval. Be smart!

Lab Hours:       Monday – Friday          8:10 – 9:10AM

                        Thursday          3:30 – 4:30PM

2008 marks the sixth year the CDL Program has been in existence.  If you were registered in the program previously, you will automatically be registered for the new school year and will only need to update your new classroom information, take a new picture, and complete a review of the last level you completed. If you have not registered before, you may stop by the computer lab and pick up an enrollment form.  This program is completely optional and should not interfere with the regular school curriculum.

The CDL program consists of six levels of ability with six exams in each level.  To advance to the next level one must complete all six exams in the previous level.  Members will receive a hole-punch, in their driver’s license for every exam taken successfully and a certificate of ability after every completed level.  The lab will be open before school five days a week for taking exams and doing homework.   Studying to complete the exams is all self-motivated.  It is completely up to the member to advance through the levels.  If a member does not know how to pass an exam, a tutorial can be taken with an instructor to show the basic knowledge to pass that exam.  If a tutorial is taken, the member cannot take the exam until the next scheduled day. The goal is to give a basic understanding of computers to students, teachers, and parents as a tool for greater learning. The program operates on a first come first served (take a number) basis.  There may be a time when there are too many members in the lab for everyone to take an exam or go through a tutorial.  For those members who arrived on time and were not able to take an exam, we will give a “Wild Card” to be used the next time they attend the program.  A member with a “Wild Card” will be the next served when shown to an instructor.  Students do not need a parent in attendance.

There is only one after-school class per week, (Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:30).  The computer lab will be open at 8:10 AM everyday. There are times when I am not able to open the computer lab in the morning; on those occasions, I will change the color of the CDL tag to RED on the home page of the West Woodland Website.  In most cases, I will also post a note outside the computer lab door in advance when I know the computer lab will be closed. It is always a good idea to check the Website before dropping off your child in the morning.

If you have any questions about the CDL Program, please visit me in the computer lab before or after school. Or, email me at: sdsorensen@seattleschools.org

Sincerely,
