Dear
Parents:
Thank you for
considering West Woodland. We are a neighborhood school with a dedicated
staff, a newer facility and a committed parent community.
West Woodland teaches kindergarten
through fifth grade to about 360 students. We emphasize high academic
expectations and responsibility for good citizenship and public stewardship.
Every child is important at West Woodland. Our teachers stop at nothing to
ensure success for EVERY student. Our alliance with the Woodland Park Zoo has
allowed us to collaborate with zoo naturalists on curriculum and be a
"hands-on" laboratory for the zoo. Programs like this help build an
academic environment that fosters children's curiosity and guides them
towards exploration and discovery. Students at West Woodland develop
confidence, concern for others, and a passion for learning!
Parent involvement is very high at West
Woodland, and we encourage your participation both in and out of the
classroom. We recognize that parents are the primary educators of their
children, and you are extremely valuable to the work we do.
Please visit our school, and feel the
excitement, devotion, and active engagement of both students and staff. We
are in the business of educating and loving children--and we take your trust
with serious commitment.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Loveness,
Principal

West
Woodland's Philosophy
It is the VISION of West Woodland Elementary to
create an educational success story for every student.
To accomplish this, our MISSION is to provide a learning
environment where all students achieve high academic performance according to
Washington State Essential Learning Standards. We strive to challenge,
support, and instill joy in the learning process. Students exit our school,
responsive and responsible, with the confidence and curiosity to
explore the future.
Our parents, staff, and Advisory Council have created West Woodland's
strategic plan. Over 75 people worked on these goals for the school and
measurable objectives to achieve them. Complete copies are available upon
request.
