Book Title:  Spirit Walker

Author:  Michelle Paver

Where to find this book:  F PAV

I rate this book: 4.5 Stars

I liked this book because it has excitement and it changes perspective.  Also, I like the first book in the series and this one is as good.  This book is about a boy named Torak, who has to find a cure to a sickness that is spreading throughout the forest, wiping out clans.  I recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy, or that liked the book Wolf Brother (same series).

Name:  Clara Manahan

Age:  11

Book Title:  Salem Witch (My Side of the Story)

Author:  Patricia Hermes

I rate this book:  5 stars

This book, unlike others, tells both sides of the story, not one or the other.  The sides are written very well.  There is one girl who thinks that these Salem Witch Trials are completely silly.  But does her friend George believe this, too!  Salem is hanging people left and right.  Are these girls who are accusing people, just acting?  This is about two people’s opinion on the same thing.  I would recommend this book to fourth and fifth graders because others would not understand this book as much.

Book Title:  The Way We Eat: Why our Food Choices Matter

Author:  Jim Mason and Peter Singer

I rate this book:  5 Stars

I liked this book because it honestly tells us where our meat comes from, where it is produced, and how the animals are treated.  This book is about how animals are made into food like hot dogs or hamburgers, etc… and how they are treated in the process.  They use 3 human families and their eating habits for examples.  I recommend this book to anyone who is concerned about where their meat comes from, how it is treated, and some responsible places where they treat the animals with respect.

Book Title:  The Indian school

Author:  Gloria Whelan

I rate this book: 5 Stars

I liked this book because it shows us how we took the Indian’s land and names and destroyed them, and how we made the Indian children give up their tradition.  This book shows us what we did that was wrong through the eyes of a white girl.  This book is about a girl whose parents died and moved to her aunt and uncle’s house.  Her aunt and uncle owned an Indian school that took Indian children and taught them the white man’s ways.  One day a young girl and little brother came to the Indian school with their father.  The father left them there and said he would return soon.  The Indian girl refused to learn the white man’s ways.  But one day she needed the help of a white girl when disaster struck.  I recommend this book to anyone who likes learning about the past and who likes a story that has real and not real things.

Book Title:  Rats!  The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Author:  Richard Conniff

I rate this book:  4.5 Stars

Where to find this book: 599.3 CON

I like this book because it told interesting facts about rats and said that rats aren’t bad, we’re just scared of them.  This book is all about rats, different kinds of rats, damage that rat’s cause and absolute amazing things that rats can do.  I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a fun, interesting book all about the amazing rats.  I think anyone from grades 3-5 would enjoy it.

Book Title:  Dragon Rider

Author:  Cornelia Funke

I rate this book: 5 Stars

Where to find this book:  F FUN

I liked Dragon Rider because it was a fantasy and to me every page I read the more I wanted to read on.  This book is about a boy, a dragon, and a brownie.  A brownie is a magical creature not something you eat, well not in Dragon Rider.  It is the dragon’s job to find a place called the Rim of Heaven because that is where the other dragons and he live and humans are destroying it.  On the way to the Rim of Heaven he meets a boy that goes on the quest with him.  I recommend this book to 4th graders and up because it is a long book.

Book Title:  Wolf Brother

Author:  Michelle Paver

I rate this book: 5 Stars

I liked this book because it captured my attention very easily and it kept being exciting all the way through.  This book is about a young boy named Torak and a young wolf cub on a journey to find the mountain of the world spirit.  On the way they meet, a once enemy but now a friend, Renn, a girl from the raven clan.  Will she help Torak and wolf on their journey or will she turn on him?  I recommend this book to all readers, young and old.  I read adult books too and even though for some readers this book might be a little short seeming, it keeps making the pages turn.

Name:  Maddison

Age:  11

Book Title:  Warrior Series #1

Author:  Erin Hunter

I rate this book:  5 Stars

I liked this book because it is an adventure fantasy book and although it has its sad moments I love the fact that it always has you on the edge of your seat.  This book is about a cat named Rusty who goes into the woods and finds these wild cats that live in clans.  Rusty must decide if he will join the clans and whether or not he wants to leave the soft cozy life of a kitty pet.  I recommend this book to more advanced readers and kids that love adventure fantasy and can handle the sad moments.  Also its great for cat lovers!

Name:  Rebecca

Age:  11

Book Title:  East

Author:  Edith Pattou

I rate this book:  4.5 Stars

I liked this book because it kept you interested through the whole book.  Also, it shows everyone’s opinion.  For example, there aren’t chapters; there are sections that say whose perspective you’re reading.  If you are reading the polar bear perspective, than it will say ‘polar bear’ on the top.  This book is about Rose whose mother wanted to keep her close all because she was born north.  “A baby born north will be crushed under ice and snow” is what the mother said.  When Rose grew up, a polar bear came to their door and said he will take Rose away for a year.  He said he would not hurt her.  Rose’s family said no.  The bear stayed around for a while until the family agreed.  He took Rose far, far away and kept her in his castle.  During Rose’s stay some mysterious things happen, and you will have to read the book to find out!  I recommend this book to anyone who likes a story with trolls, magic, and mystery.
