Together We Can....

Welcome to Second Grade, Room 202!

I am delighted that your child is in my class! He/she will be a part of many exciting and rewarding experiences this academic year.

In order to maintain a classroom that is conducive to learning, I have developed a classroom climate that gives students the tools to make good decisions about behavior, and thus an opportunity to learn in a positive and nurturing class environment. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his/her growth, and I know that together we can make a difference in this process. The behavior expectations, known as wildcat PAWS are:

1. Participate Respectfully
2. Act Responsibly and Reasonably
3. Will Follow Directions
4. Will be Safe

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Homework is an important extension of studies in the classroom and is expected to be returned on time the next morning, unless otherwise stated. A typical homework assignment should take a second grader about 20 minutes. Students are held accountable for their assignments. If you or your child have a question concerning the assignment, please write a note or send an email to listroud@seattleschools.org. I will go over it with your child and return the assignment to be completed.

In addition to the nightly homework, students are expected to read at home for 20 minutes for at least 20 days each month. These Reading Challenge Calendars will come home the first of each month and will need to be returned at the end of the month. The reading you child does at home is a very important part of his total reading development.

Every Friday, your child will bring home a Friday Envelope with all of his graded papers inside. A form is attached to the Friday Envelope with space to allow you (or us!) to write any comments or questions and to sign off when you have emptied it and reviewed our child's work. Return the envelope on Monday. I hope that this will help provide a close relationship between home and school as well as help keep papers organized. Occasionally, an important paper may be sent home before Friday, so be sure to check your child's back and forth folder in his/her backpack nightly.

Whenever you have questions or concerns, please contact me at school at 252-1618. I am eager to work with you and to make this and exciting year of learning for your child.

Sincerely,
Lisa Stroud
