Present:  Pat Johnson, Margaret Lang, Martin McGowan, Susan Griffith, Bonnie Fromm, Jan Dalbey, Marilyn Loveness

 

3:50    Call to order

 

1.10            Welcome and Agenda

 

1.20            Approval of June Minutes

 

1.30            Principal Report 

*We have 349 students.  This number is below the district projection and puts us about $1,000 behind in our budget.

*Marilyn is happy with the decision to go with the 2/3 multi-age class.

PTSA is ready to support grades 2 and 3 classes with their larger class sizes (ie. an aide).

*Kelli Timberlake resigned due to a promotion.  Resource Room is now staffed with a substitute.  We will conduct joint interviews with Whittier to fill the position.

*Lunch/recess switching did not occur due to logistical difficulties.

 

1.31     Staff Report

*Good start to the school year.

 

1.32     PTSA Report

*None

 

1.40     Kid’s Inc. changes

*Director Anne Dame resigned.  Parent meeting scheduled for tonight.

 

1.50            Curriculum Night

*Sept. 15th 6:30-8:30

*Marilyn will talk to Kid’s Inc. about childcare.

*Grades K-2: will be sessions 1 and 2.  Grades 3-5: will be sessions 2 and 3.

*Conference sign ups will be that night.

*Teachers/principal will address topics such as: curriculum, homework, communication with school, emergency preparedness, etc.

 

1.51          Conference Schedule

*We will have the 7 early release day schedule like previous years due to staff discussion.

*Marilyn will tell parents that conference sign ups will be at Curriculum Night in Sneaks and will have office give sign up sheets to teachers.

 

 

 

 

1.60     School Survey

*Discussion of best time to give this to parents.

*It will be handed out at conferences so we can have the info. back by the next Advisory Council meeting.

 

1.70            Hurricane Relief Assistance

*Pat went to meeting with Robert Radford.  Focus was how to help at school and how to support schools that are taking in students.

Help could take the form of:

1.      Fundraising (change drive, portion of bake sale proceeds, etc.)

*Students Hunter and Gerson are organizing the change drive.  Trina Manley’s class is organizing a raffle.

2.      Wrist band sales (SOS:  Schools Offering Support)

3.      Blood Drive (Pat will check with Red Cross)

4.      Making cards for evacuees

5.      Donating airline miles

6.      Homeless backpacks

7.      CAMP (Central Area Motivation Project)  This organization helps families who have moved here.  Pat will check to see if we can help Yolanda’s (our Family Support Worker) family or any other families who have moved to our area.

*In the longterm:  Promote disaster preparedness at home for our families.

 

1.80     Open Forum

*Marilyn reported that most of our water fountains are turned on and OK to use.

*Marilyn would like to (in the future) look at the roles of the 3 bodies of governance at West Woodland (PTSA, Advisory Council, Building Leadership Team)
