TOURNAMENTS
The most important step to becoming a good player is to play as often as possible. Another way to improve at chess id to participate in one of the many scholastic chess tournaments held during the year. We will post tournament information here and on the bulletin board across from the Library.
One common misperception is that tournaments are only for older kids. Actually tournaments are geared for every grade level, and the organizers understand that younger kids require more encouragement. Often kindergarteners get their own room, and every participant walks away with a metal or trophy. Tournaments are all-day events with a large amount of time between rounds for playing outside and generally horsing around with their friends. Kids who do well in local tournaments get an opportunity to represent the school in the annual state scholastic championships each April.
Some tournaments we register as a group, and others individuals can register on-line.
