West Woodland Family Science Night
April 4, 2007
Project Guidelines
Family Science Night projects should be fun and
educational, with the emphasis on fun! Family Science Night is not a
contest, but a celebration of learning, creativity, and
scientific exploration. Every student who participates is a
winner.
Students
- Pick something that interests you, or that you have always wondered about.
- Project ideas are given on the next page, along with web sites that may be
helpful.
- Get all the assistance you need, but try to do the work yourself.
- Working in pairs or groups on a project is fine!
- Don't wait until the last minute to get started!
- Your project does not have to be complicated to be a great project!
Parents
- Please resist the temptation to take over your child's project, or to make
it too complicated.
- If you have a scientific interest, hobby, or job, please consider doing a
project or display yourself. Contact Bess Melby at 789-4924 (email: anna.melby@gmail.com).
Everyone
- Plan to bring your project to school on April 4th, the day of
Family Science Night, and to take it home that evening.
- Please put your name, your teacher's name, and your
classroom number on your project. (This helps us during set-up and the
awarding of certificates).
- Displays should be freestanding, and approximately no larger than 36" by
48". (Cardboard display panels are available at Office Max, or you can make
your own.)
- Please keep safety in mind! No open flames, toxic or flammable chemicals,
or sharp objects!
- Live animals are okay if safe and secure.
If your project is oversized, or if you need
electricity or special equipment, please contact Bess Melby at
789-4924.
