ONLY TWO SCHOOLS DAYS LEFT TO GET YOUR YEARBOOK ORDERED. Orders close this Tuesday – June 15th. If you have already pre-ordered your school supplies they will be available for pick up during Taking Care of Business Day or waiting for you in your child’s classroom on the first day of school. Please note that for most classes (with the exception of 3rd grade) additional items may be requested on the first day of school. Wednesday June 9th – 1:15 –4:30 pm Please take a minute to fill out The West Woodland Annual School Survey. The Spy Next Door. May 21 Friday 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Free admission, Free popcorn. A movie for the whole family So, you’re thinking to yourself, how can I get involved next year? Well, here’s your chance. We’re looking for several chairs and/or co-chairs for committees. You don’t want to take on a committee by yourself? Grab a friend to sign up with you! Contact Erin Pedersen (skygal1@hotmail.com) or Martha Gizinski (mcgizinski@seattleschools.org). Here’s the list, so take your pick: On Thursday, May 27th, from 8:30 AM (for those that drop kids at choir) until it is done, there will be a work party to organize the shelves in the library. This really helps the end of the year book returns, and also allows the library to start off next fall nicely organized. Please drop in after you get your student settled where they need to be and help organize. Even ½ an hour is greatly appreciated. Many hands make light work. Treats and a huge thank you will be provided. The ARTS are alive and well at West Woodland! One of my favorite things on Fridays is to drop in on the ARTS FRIDAY classes. Last week the second graders were singing a favorite song of mine: Somos El Barco. They were enjoying it too, but they really put their heart into the next song about grandma’s cookies – eyes lit up, every voice was heard. When I stopped by the art class, I found the Ms. Lang, 3rd grade teacher, challenging her artistic sense with the students. Students and teachers alike look forward to these classes. Thanks again to this community who supported this program through a raise the paddle for the arts at last year’s auction; this was the seed money supplemented by the annual appeal funds that make these experiences possible. Every child has their artistic senses awakened in a Friday art or music class. The ARTS were also alive this week on stage where our 4th graders presented a musical teaching us all about electricity! Even Ben Franklin made an appearance. The walls are alive with ART too. The third grade classrooms have a display of Native American style button blankets, and weaving. The second graders have “photographs” depicting their safari, and self portraits too! The first graders are displaying their interpretation of Monet’s style of painting. Two fifth graders stopped me in the hall to tell me that they sing every recess and showed me the list of the new songs they were doing together. The Cub Choir left exuberantly to walk up to the Norse Home to sing. ARTS – alive and well at West Woodland – thanks to many parents, teachers and community advocates! CLASS ASSIGNMENT POLICY Immortalize your artistic vision and help protect our play field! The PTA is holding a poster contest. The subject matter is keeping uncontrolled dogs off our new (soon-to-be) play field. Be positive, be funny, be artistic, and think of all the reasons unleashed pets are not welcome on school property. Something like: Keep our field clean! or Digging Holes Ruin Soccer Goals! or No Dumping! Drop off an 8″x11″ two-color poster with name and grade on the back in the office by June 1st and we will pick one design from each grade to be posted on our West Woodland Playground. |
